favorite pumpkin treats

We love fall because it's pumpkin time! We love all things pumpkin - pumpkin coffee, pumpkin butter, pumpkin ice cream, and, of course, all the pumpkin treats that go with the holiday meals ahead. But pumpkin provides more than taste sensations. It's a terrific source of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber as well. Here we share with you a way to treat your face and skin to pumpkin refreshment as well as provide you with Chef Jill Houk's delicious spiced pumpkin seeds.

how to be a localvore in any city: hit the farmer's market

When you travel to any city, you're bound to get recommendations on things to do and places to eat. Most likely, your friends have equipped you with a list of "must-visit" restaurants, bars and food trucks that convey the flavor of the place you're visiting.

However, there is one often-overlooked way to get true local flavor: Farmer's Markets.

now you're cooking with wine

We at PoshPorts love wine. We love to drink it, share it, talk about it, and yes, even cook with it. But sometimes it can be a challenge to find the right wine for the right recipe. Some recipes make it absolutely simple saying only use red or white wine as your ingredient. We think that is generally fine, but there is one rule that we'd generally adhere to: if you wouldn't drink it outside of the food you're cooking, don't put it into the food you are cooking.

tropical passion and a few virgins

Even when you can't make time for a tropical vacation getaway, you can treat yourself (and your friends!) to a beach-inspired cocktail party by getting out the little paper cocktail umbrellas and adorning some of these festive drinks with fruity garnishes on colorful picks.

It doesn't matter where you live, you can enjoy these global libations, some semi-classic favorites and some newer temptations, and feel the breeze take you to distant shores. We also provide a few virgin versions so even if you don't want alcohol, you can still drink in the tropical spirit.

pasta - italian family style

We love family, we love pasta. We think pasta makes for a great family style dinner just about anytime. If you're like us, you enjoy mixing and matching different sauces with different pastas. Some believe that you should use a thin pasta like cappelini (or angel hair) with lighter sauces such as pomodoro and thicker or ribbed pasta such as penne, rigatoni or fettuccini, which can stand up to and hold heartier sauce like the meaty bolognese. We, however, believe that, as it is with wine, so it should be with pasta. Drink what you enjoy! Eat what you enjoy!

With its lush growing regions, abundant coastlines and ample room for grazing cattle, Spain naturally offers some of the best food on the planet. Spanish cuisine combines bold flavors, such as garlic, shellfish, game, beef and saffron into a variety of dishes. Paella is among the best-known examples of Spanish cooking. This rich dish pairs rice that is flavored with garlic, tomato and saffron with rabbit, chorizo (a dried Spanish sausage) and escargot.
