the chicago diner: meaty vegetarian

After hearing about the Chicago Diner for years, hemming and hawing about the thought of an all-vegetarian, mostly vegan diner, we had a hard time wrapping our minds around the idea that the food at such an establishment could be hearty, tasty and, well, really, really good. We finally took the plunge, and boy are we glad we did.  The Chicago Diner makes vegetarian fare worth pursuing with its meat-free renderings of favorite diner foods from Reubens to burgers,  sloppy joes, lasagna, gyros, Philly cheese steaks,  tacos and more.

what to drink on bastille day

Bastille Day's official liqueur is a French apertif wine that blends citrus liqueurs with an orange tang called Lillet. It can be served over ice, chilled, as a spritzer or in a variety of ways.

To make a spritzer, pour 4 or 5 ounces into a lovely white wine glass filled with ice and add club soda to fill. You can garnish with an orange slice, or a festive French flag swizzle stick if you have one.

tastes from cyprus, the land of aphrodite

Cyprus has a unique and interesting culinary and historical culture. Its varied influences come from its long history of occupations by the Greeks, Phoenicians, Assyrians, Egyptians, Persians, Romans, Francs, Venetians, Turks and British.

Today the island is divided between the Greeks living on the southern part of the island and the Turks living to the north. The cuisine is thus touched by the various influences that have lived on the island, giving it a flavor all its own.

france's champagne region

While a trip to Paris is enough to fill many days with wonderful sights and sounds if you find yourself looking to get outside the city and explore, and you love sparkling wine, the Champagne region is a just quick train ride away. The TGV is an efficient way to travel around Europe. The trains are fast (like 200mph fast), clean and comfortable. The train can get you from Paris to Reims in less than an hour.

niagara on the lake - ontario, canada

After deciding to visit a friend who had recently moved to Toronto we decided to embark on a car trip to Canada from Chicago. We thought the trip would be fun and we could stop and visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cinncinati as well as the always popular Niagara Falls. As many people know the Niagara Falls has been a honeymoon destination for many, many years.

Upon planning our trip my friend in Toronto told us about Niagara On the Lake (NOTL) and told us we shouldn’t miss it. Since we had never been to Niagara Falls let alone NOTL, the researching began.
