Slow Cooking in A Fast Month
We know that February is the shortest month, usually only 28 days. And, it's a busy month with the fast pace of a new year in full swing. So why not take a little time to appreciate the modern technological wonder that helps us slow down and save time all at once. Yes, we're talking about the beloved slow cooker aka crockpot. We can't think of a better way to unwind with your valentine than to put together something warm and yummy for the tummy in the morning, leaving you to enjoy one another's company rather than working in the kitchen. Slow cookers can produce a most satisfying meal in the chilly months, while allowing you to enjoy a hands-free cooking approach that helps to keep you fresh and ready to enjoy it.
Nothing says winter cooking like a crockpot.
There are many ways to enjoy the love of a great valentine when you suddenly find yourself with some extra free time courtesy of your slow-cooking helper. Here are a few possibilities: Watch a favorite movie. Play a board game or two (you could even use it as an opportunity to try out that strip poker game you've just not had time for!), look at old photos or relive favorite vacations, plan a new activity, hobby or holiday, or just relax and read, listen to music and unwind together. Whatever you choose, it will be an opportunity for you to spend time with that special someone and not worry about the timing of every dish in the oven and on the stove.
There are plenty of wonderful slow cooker recipes online and in magazines that will appeal to just about every taste. Here is one of our favorite fool-proof recipes, so easy that you barely need a recipe. You can count on it to share warm, comfy flavors with a minimum of fuss, leaving you time to fuss on your loved one.
Yummy beef stew so easy but so good.
Slow Cooker Beef Stew
1 pound good quality beef stew meat, cut in cubes
2 cans of Campbell's Condensed Golden Mushroom Soup (10 3/4 oz.)
1/2 cup dry red wine
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon granulated garlic
1 teaspoon ground thyme
2 cups small whole mushrooms or large mushrooms quartered
1 1/2 cup whole baby carrots
2 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
2 medium onions, cut into wedges
2 stalks of celery, diced
Easy as can be - put all ingredients into your slow cooker and mix the meat and veggies to coat with the soup and liquid. Cover and cook on low for about 8 hours or until the beef is very tender.
Serving suggestions: You can serve it in a bowl with crusty bread and a green salad. Or, for something different, prepare some wide egg noodles, mashed potatoes or rice and serve the stew on top of the starch.
And spend the extra time you have playing and pampering your loved one. The meal and the day will be the warmest of the month!
