Raindrops on Roses and Whiskers on Kittens...

The holidays are here and one of my favorite things about this time of year is the music. Whether you're into traditional, contemporary or anything in between there's sure to be a song or two that will have you singing along and enjoying the season. As always there are a ton of new releases. Here are a few suggestions:

Merry Christmas Baby - Rod Stewart

For folks who love Rod the Mod, Rod sings duets with Cee Lo Green, Michael Buble and more as he covers the holiday classics.

Dreams of Fireflies (On A Christmas Night) - Trans-Siberian Orchestra

Great music to synchronize with your holiday lights! If you love their orchestral electronic symphonic music you'll want to add this CD to your collection. Call it "rock opera" or whatever you like. It's hugely successful and lots of fun.

James Taylor At Christmas - James Taylor

For Music Lovers. James always sounds terrific and this collection is no exception. Anyone who covers Joni Mitchell's "River" is for sure one of my favorites.

This Christmas - John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John

Great if you're looking for something completely different. If you can get past the weird photo on the cover it's actually not bad. Clearly, these two long-time friends wanted to do a project together and thought wouldn't it be fun? Not quite the same as their musical turn in Grease, it still might be good for a nostalgiac listen.

Christimas in the Sand - Colbie Caillat

For California Christmas Lovers. Colbie brings her sweet voice and fun California sound to Christmas.

Blake Shelton

Cheers, It's Christmas - Blake Shelton

For the Country Music Lovers. Well known as a judge on tv singing competition The Voice and his successful country music career. This is a solid holiday album and Blake duets with his wife Miranda Lambert, Kelly Clarkson, Michael Buble, his Mom and other notable voices on some new holiday songs.

And here are a few favorites from my personal collection:

Joy To The World - Pink Martini

This is a multi-cultural cornucopia of musical fun. Leave it to Pink Martini to combine Christmas, Hanukkah and Chinese New Year songs - and make it work! I listen to this CD over and over again. It's that good.

A Charlie Brown Christmas - Vince Guaraldi Trio

Everyone knows that I'm a huge Peanuts fan, so it should be no surprise to see this CD on the list. This may be one of the few music selections I've had on an album, cassette, CD and digitally. It's a classic and another CD you can just put on repeat.

And my favorite Christmas song of all time - I Like A Sleigh Ride by Peggy Lee take a listen and then go enjoy your own favorites.
