5 Ways To Get More Done
Part of living the good life is making the most of everyday. Let's face it, we all have a lot of things we want to do. It's frustrating when you can't get through everything or just get tired and can't do any more. We'd like to share with you, our cherished readers, some of the things we do to increase our productivity.
1 - Get some rest - Sleeping 7 to 8 hours every night is very important to making each day more productive. If you're rested it's easier to get up and tackle the day. Traveling can sometimes get in the way of this, but if you can take a short power nap during the day - no matter what time it is where you are - that can help you get through the rest of the day. Turning off all your gadgets and leaving them out of your bedroom can also help avoid sleep interruptions. We eliminate all screens a couple hours prior to sleep time which helps to clear your mind from the endless stream of information, news and gossip.
2 - Eat Breakfast - Yes it really is the most important meal of the day, providing the kick start your body needs after a good night's sleep. Try to include some protein that will stay with you longer and help you avoid the "I'm hungry again" mid-morning struggle.
3 - Be grateful - Spend some time each day counting your blessings. Identify 1, 2 or 3 things you're grateful for, or more - it's really up to you. You can start the day this way - it's a perfect substitute for checking email or the internet - and also gives you the chance to begin each day with a smile on your face and a positive attitude instead plunging right into worrying about that first call or meeting. Or, if you prefer, end the day counting your blessings. You'll find it will help you sleep and leave you thankful.
4 - Exercise - Exercise is not only good for your body, it provides a break in your day to get away (even metaphorically) from your usual schedule. Even just 30 minutes a day makes a big difference. Can't spare 30 minutes? Try 10 minute increments of activity. Walk around the block, walk up and down the stairs at work, walk the dog, chase the cat, dance to a few songs, dig in the garden...whatever physical activity you enjoy. Just take the time and do it. You'll increase your energy and have time to think about something other than work. This is the time we often come up with our best ideas. Make sure to write your good ideas down or put them in your gadget.
5 - Make A List - Yes, it's old-fashioned, but it works. Frankly, there's just too much information coming at us all day every day, that we simpy can't remember it all. Keep a list where you'll see it. Write down the few things you absolutely want to get done today - and keep it short. If you have too many things on the list it will be overwhelming and easy to say "I can't get through all this today." Make a new list every day. If you must, you can use your favorite technology to keep the list. Most phones offer a to-do list or notes function and there are a ton of apps out there to help. Evernote, RTM (Remember The Milk) and Do It Tomorrow are just a few.
That's how we get more done every day. What do you do to manage your time and your work load? Please share your tips. We'd love to hear them.
